An extension lecture on English Language Proficiency at Modi College
Multani Mal Modi College Patiala today organized an extension lecture cum discussion on the topic, ‘English Language Proficiency’. This lecture was organized by the English Department of the College and the lecture was delivered by Prof. Swaraj Raj, Dean Faculty of Languages and Head, Department of English, Shri Guru Granth Sahib World University, Fatehgarh Sahib. College Principal Dr. Khushvinder Kumar welcomed the main speaker and said that the curiosity and pursuit for knowledge is the most important factor for optimal development of any human being. Dr. (Mrs.) Baljinder Kaur, Head, Department of English formally introduced the main speaker and discussed the role and significance of English language in our present times. Prof. Swaraj raj while delivering his lecture discussed the structural and cultural foundations of English Language. He told that learning English is a multilayered process which needs methods, techniques and understanding fundamentals to engage with the language. A lively discussion session followed the lecture in which students discussed their problems and challenges in learning the English language.
The stage was conducted by Prof. Vaneet kaur and the vote of thanks was presented by Prof. Shailendra Sidhu. All faculty members and students were present on this occasion.

ਮੁਲਤਾਨੀ ਮੱਲ ਮੋਦੀ ਕਾਲਜ, ਪਟਿਆਲਾ ਵਿਖੇ ਅੱਜ ‘ਅੰਗਰੇਜ਼ੀ ਭਾਸ਼ਾ ਵਿੱਚ ਮੁਹਾਰਤ’ ਵਿਸ਼ੇ ਉੱਪਰ ਇੱਕ ਵਿਸ਼ੇਸ਼ ਭਾਸ਼ਣ ਦਾ ਆਯੋਜਨ ਕੀਤਾ ਗਿਆ। ਕਾਲਜ ਦੇ ਅੰਗਰੇਜ਼ੀ ਵਿਭਾਗ ਵੱਲੋਂ ਆਯੋਜਿਤ ਕੀਤੇ ਇਸ ਭਾਸ਼ਣ ਵਿੱਚ ਮੁੱਖ ਵਕਤਾ ਵਜੋਂ ਪ੍ਰੋ. ਸਵਰਾਜ ਰਾਜ, ਡੀਨ ਫੈਕਲਟੀ ਆਫ਼ ਲੈਂਗੁਏਜਿਸ ਅਤੇ ਮੁਖੀ ਅੰਗਰੇਜ਼ੀ ਵਿਭਾਗ, ਸ਼੍ਰੀ ਗੁਰੂ ਗ੍ਰੰਥ ਸਾਹਿਬ ਵਰਲਡ ਯੂਨੀਵਰਸਿਟੀ, ਫਤਿਹਗੜ੍ਹ ਸਾਹਿਬ ਨੇ ਸ਼ਿਰਕਤ ਕੀਤੀ। ਕਾਲਜ ਪ੍ਰਿੰਸੀਪਲ ਡਾ. ਖੁਸ਼ਵਿੰਦਰ ਕੁਮਾਰ ਜੀ ਨੇ ਮੁੱਖ ਵਕਤਾ ਦਾ ਨਿੱਘਾ ਸਵਾਗਤ ਕਰਦਿਆਂ ਕਿਹਾ ਕਿ ਗਿਆਨ ਦੀ ਸਿੱਕ ਅਤੇ ਜਗਿਆਸਾ ਹੀ ਮਨੁੱਖੀ ਸਮਰੱਥਾ ਦਾ ਸਰਵ-ਪੱਖੀ ਵਿਕਾਸ ਕਰਨ ਵਿੱਚ ਮੁੱਖ ਭੂਮਿਕਾ ਅਦਾ ਕਰਦੀ ਹੈ। ਅੰਗਰੇਜ਼ੀ ਵਿਭਾਗ ਦੇ ਮੁੱਖੀ ਡਾ. (ਮਿਸਿਜ਼) ਬਲਜਿੰਦਰ ਕੌਰ ਨੇ ਮੁੱਖ ਵਕਤਾ ਅਤੇ ਅੰਗਰੇਜ਼ੀ ਭਾਸ਼ਾ ਦੀ ਮੌਜੂਦਾ ਸਥਿਤੀ ਬਾਰੇ ਮਹੱਤਵਪੂਰਨ ਪਹਿਲੂਆਂ ਬਾਰੇ ਜਾਣਕਾਰੀ ਦਿੱਤੀ। ਪ੍ਰੋ. ਸਵਰਾਜ ਰਾਜ ਨੇ ਆਪਣੇ ਵਿਸ਼ੇਸ਼ ਭਾਸ਼ਣ ਵਿੱਚ ਵਿਦਿਆਰਥੀਆਂ ਨੂੰ ਸੰਬੋਧਿਤ ਕਰਦਿਆਂ ਅੰਗਰੇਜ਼ੀ ਭਾਸ਼ਾ ਦੀ ਬਣਤਰ ਤੇ ਵਿਉਂਤ ਅਤੇ ਇਸਦੀਆਂ ਸੱਭਿਆਚਾਰਕ ਜੜ੍ਹਾਂ ਬਾਰੇ ਚਰਚਾ ਕੀਤੀ। ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੇ ਦੱਸਿਆ ਕਿ ਅੰਗਰੇਜ਼ੀ ਭਾਸ਼ਾ ਨੂੰ ਸਿੱਖਣ ਦੀ ਪ੍ਰਕ੍ਰਿਆ ਬਹੁ-ਧਰਤੀ ਹੈ ਅਤੇ ਸਿੱਖਣ ਵਾਲੇ ਨੂੰ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਤਕਨੀਕਾਂ, ਵਿਧੀਆਂ ਅਤੇ ਮੁੱਢਲੇ ਸਿਧਾਂਤਾਂ ਤੋਂ ਜਾਣੂ ਹੋਣਾ ਜ਼ਰੂਰੀ ਹੈ ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਰਾਹੀਂ ਭਾਸ਼ਾ ਨੂੰ ਆਪਣੇ ਜੀਵਨ-ਪ੍ਰਬੰਧ ਦਾ ਹਿੱਸਾ ਬਣਾਇਆ ਜਾ ਸਕੇ। ਇਸ ਭਾਸ਼ਣ ਤੋਂ ਬਾਅਦ ਵਿਦਿਆਰਥੀਆਂ ਨੇ ਮੁੱਖ ਵਕਤਾ ਨਾਲ ਅੰਗਰੇਜ਼ੀ ਭਾਸ਼ਾ ਸਿੱਖਣ ਬਾਰੇ ਗੰਭੀਰ ਵਿਚਾਰ-ਵਟਾਂਦਰਾ ਕੀਤਾ। ਵਿਦਿਆਰਥੀਆਂ ਨੇ ਅੰਗਰੇਜ਼ੀ ਭਾਸ਼ਾ ਸਿੱਖਣ ਵਿੱਚ ਆਉਂਦੀਆਂ ਮੁਸ਼ਕਿਲਾਂ ਅਤੇ ਚੁਣੌਤੀਆਂ ਬਾਰੇ ਮੁੱਖ ਵਕਤਾ ਨਾਲ ਸਵਾਲ ਜਵਾਬ ਕੀਤੇ।
ਸਟੇਜ ਪ੍ਰਬੰਧਨ ਦੀ ਜ਼ਿੰਮੇਵਾਰੀ ਪ੍ਰੋ. ਵਨੀਤ ਕੌਰ ਨੇ ਨਿਭਾਈ ਅਤੇ ਧੰਨਵਾਦ ਦਾ ਮਤਾ ਪ੍ਰੋ. ਸ਼ੈਲੇਂਦਰਾ ਸਿੱਧੂ ਨੇ ਪੇਸ਼ ਕੀਤਾ। ਇਸ ਮੌਕੇ ਤੇ ਕਾਲਜ ਦੇ ਅਧਿਆਪਕ ਸਾਹਿਬਾਨ ਅਤੇ ਸਮੂਹ ਵਿਦਿਆਰਥੀ ਸ਼ਾਮਲ ਹੋਏ।
